Cocktail Kickstarters

*** How to kick-start your wedding reception with a cocktail party to remember ->

IT IS ALL ABOUT FIRST IMPRESSIONS! Your guests dressed in their finest clothes, arrived on time and came with the heightened expectations of an evening to remember. Your cocktail reception is the ultimate opportunity to dazzle them from the moment they first arrive. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE THAT IMPRESSION TO BE? There are so many amazing choices in music, from classic cool jazz to modern upbeat urban. You may prefer the magical Motown music of the 60s or perhaps the amazing acoustics of the 00s. Rest assured there is no wrong answer so long as your guests are not met with an awkward silence! Too often have parties of the past been greeted with that very awkward silence you are seeking to avoid. Weddings bring together many groups of family and friends that have never met before and conversation does not necessarily flow easily at the beginning. Great music is your ultimate assurance in bringing up the energy of the room, giving your guests something to talk about and perhaps even get a few toes tapping as your guests get further into their signature cocktails. SO WHAT STYLE FITS YOUR WEDDING BEST? We know from speaking to 100s of couples over our years as a wedding and event band that song suggestions are sometimes nearly impossible to come up with! That is why we are devoting this weeks blog to an overview of the most popular music styles we have come across to create the most memorable cocktail receptions. HOW MANY SONGS WILL I NEED TO CHOOSE? Each list includes exactly 14 of our favourite songs, which is exactly the number of songs that should fit into the average cocktail hour lasting approximately 75 Minutes. Digging deep is the fun part! Feel free to EMAIL US with your personal favourite songs you see below and let us know if you would like some more similar suggestions.

1) COOL JAZZY COCKTAILS This is a popular way to begin any party as it matches most elegant & chic TO venues. It is light and fun while still being cool and soft. These are fantastic for bringing up the energy of the room without being too loud for your older guests. My favourite thing about performing these is how they are always so universally loved with older guests often singing along while children begin dancing around the room. Best of all is at least some of these are likely your parents' favourites, which is of course part of the reason for all the fuss today.

3) URBAN POP-TAILS For more upbeat cocktail-receptions, modern pop, dance and R&B are remarkably fun when they are played by a live event band. The sound of the instruments softens the sound to give it an elegant flair that will match even the most upscale black-tie affair, while at the same time making you and your friends smile while you listen along to recognize which
