Alternative Wedding Songs

*** For anyone that wants to make their wedding music as rebelliously righteous as the 1990s ->

Alternative Music was one of my earliest loves. The album artwork from THE SMASHING PUMPKINS and FOO FIGHTERS was rebelliously stuck to my bedroom walls with scotch tape, . My favourite albums were stacked high in CD towers that were chronologically organized. And just above my desk was a cork board where push pins held up used tickets from my favourite concerts. To me, alternative music in the mid-90s was as cool as it got. 25 years later, these songs amazingly still pop up on wedding playlists. And every time they do I get so incredibly excited! Bands like FOO FIGHTERS, RADIOHEAD and THE SMASHING PUMPKINS were absolutely everywhere at the time, created some of the greatest artistic albums of a generation and are still so much fun to sing along to with friends who share a love for the now retro "90s counter culture". There is sometime exciting and rebellious about performing these amazing little tunes at weddings. Being that they are not "common wedding songs", hearing these classic tunes pop up will inspire every one of your guests who share a passion for this rebellious genre. This week we have compiled a list of our favourites from all 3 decades, highlighting all of the songs we love to include in our lists of Cocktail, Dinner and Dance music alike. In the list below that includes over 50 of our favourites we have included the 1980s NEW WAVE origins of the alternative rock genre, all of our favourite 1990s ALTERNATIVE ROCK favourites, stretching to the later manifestations of the genre that morphed into what we now know as 2000s INDIE ROCK.

1980's NEW-WAVE ALTERNATIVE What started with punk and new-wave in the early 80s, morphed into a new hybrid known as Alternative Music by the end of the decade. Largely replacing synthesizers with guitars, the music became grittier and matched the honesty and truth the lyrics were trying to convey.
