Folk-Rock Fantastic

"All music is folk music; I ain't never heard no horse sing a song" - Louis Armstrong

Folk is the oldest of North American music traditions that was used for cultural storytelling. It enjoyed a revival in the 1940s and 50s with folk and bluegrass bands using then-modern recording quality to modernize old favourite songs like Hang Your Head Tom Dooley and You Are My Sunshine, Folk-Rock began as a hybrid of two genres as 60s with artists like Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel fused these traditional sounds with new rock energy, ushering in a new age of thoughtful words mixed with light beautiful sounds. This gave way to so many more brilliant voices to come up with inspiring music from that point forward like Cat Stevens and Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot in the 70s and more recently artists like Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and Vance Joy. These are all songs about life and love that fit perfectly with a wedding soundtrack. They are songs your parents will remember and kids will love, bringing everyone young and old alike together to dance. After all, that is what a wedding is supposed to be all about. Here are some of our favourites from the last 30 years. Folk on!
