Classic Vocal Jazz

September 10, 2019

Classic Vocal Jazz one style of music that comes up at almost every event we perform at. This is no accident, as being a band that focuses on classy downtown parties, it follows suit to play songs from one of the classiest genres ever created.

From Louis Armstrong to Michael Buble, vocal jazz is all about setting the mood in style, colouring the atmosphere with music dressed up in a suit and tie. The genre was popularized in the 50s and 60s by the Frank Sinatra led rat-pack,  putting a new polish on many old jazz standards. Many have stood the test of time, our culture still familiar with Frank Sinatra's version of "The Way You Look Tonight" or Nat King Cole's L.O.V.E., which is why we still start many of our performances with these songs too.

Matching the music to fit the venue is a fantastic way to further stylize your event, many of Toronto's downtown buildings already filled with a rich history that is begging to be sung about. From old bank vaults to castle towers to the libraries of renovated mansion houses, the only thing missing is a cigar in your hand and a stiff neat glass of scotch.

Even your conversations will seem more intelligent with the sound of Dean Martin crooning behind you. While we always encourage you to get more creative with your song requests as the evening goes on, Vocal Jazz remains one of the best ways to start your party on the right foot (those being feet that are dressed in very fine heels and leathers.)

Feel free to use this week's lists to help your build your own list of classy classic music for your event (Note: We take no responsibility for the clouds of cigar smoke these songs will inspire!)
