* Here are our favourite wedding games that promise to bring big smiles to your wedding day ->
Wedding games are a fantastic way to add some energy to your dinner reception. They are great at breaking the ice for groups that don't know each other very well, while augmenting the evening with fun and laughter for those groups who are already close. The best part about wedding games is that you and your guests get to be the stars! With the right approach and an MC who can balance between fun and sincere, these games can help tell your story while creating an excitement that your guests will love. Making sure the game fits with the overall style and mood of your wedding is certainly a consideration. For example if you are planning an elegant evening filled with a relaxed sultry style, then a lively Scavenger Hunt would be a poor match. On the other hand, if you are looking for a way to elevate the mood of your dinner reception early on, it can easily be the perfect addition. We have taken the time to list some of our favourite wedding games for you here with a wide range of styles to help match whatever you and your fiance have in mind.
A) SHOE GAME
I love this photo from Raechal and Keegan's wedding so much. It sums up everything I love about the Shoe Game, it is a chance to have some laughs with each other while providing your guests with some quality entertainment. The way it works is you and your partner sit with your backs to each other and take off your shoes. You then take one of your shoes in one hand and your partner's in the other and use them to answer a list of questions the MC asks, raising one shoe in the air to show guests who that question most cloesly applies to. It is a great opportunity to include some laughter by adding fun questions like: Who is the best driver? Who is the messier cook? Who takes the most time getting ready in the morning? Feel free to craft the questions to be more conservative or risque depending on your family and friends. Best of all it is a chance for guests who don't know you so well to learn more about your story, and for the ones that do to chuckle at the things about you and your partner that make them smile.
B) SCAVENGER HUNT
The Scavenger Hunt is one of the most lively wedding games, best used when you want to guests to
get excited and raise the energy in the room before dancing begins. It begins by the MC asking for one guest from every table to volunteer, then lining up one chair for each participant to sit on in the middle of the dance floor. The game begins as the MC asks those guests to find them items from around the room, ranging from simple items like lipstick and credit cards to more difficult items like headache pills or breath freshner. The DJ music plays while those guests search for the items, rushing back to sit on a chair with that item with one removed in each round, leaving just one lucky winner at the end. Do note this game does require a prize for the winner at the end. However the real prize is always just how excited and engaged guests get while playing this game, just like in the fantastic video example included for you to enjoy here.
C) KISSING GAMES
This is a popular game to add as it somewhat controls the amount of times you will have to kiss through the evening, rather than leaving it to the chance "clinking of the glasses". When the MC is in control, they can instead invite guests to get you and your fiance to kiss by a number of other fun ways. The first and simplest is the demonstration game, where the MC invites a couple up to demonstrate just how they would like you to kiss. It is a lot of fun when the DJ includes some romantic music underneath, making for a funny memorable moment Another popular way is to invite guests to answer trivia questions about you and your partner, every correct answer earning them with a kiss, while every wrong answer resulting with them kissing someone at their table instead. And my favourite way works when you or your fiance have a specific band/artist that you love. For example at a wedding where the bride loved TAYLOR SWIFT, we had the MC invite guests to cheer every time they heard us perform a Taylor Swift song, that cheer inspiring the newly-married couple to stand and kiss. It got fantastic huge cheers every time while the music energized the room.
D) CENTERPIECE GAME
Giving away the floral centerpieces toward the end of your dinner reception is always a nice touch. There are many different centerpiece games to choose from depending on the level of excitement you would like to incorporate. The easiest way is to simply have the MC announce that the winner at each table is the guest with the next birthday. However a nicer touch can be to give it to the couples that have been together the longest when possible. A more exciting centerpiece game is when the MC gets the DJ to play music while passing a napkin or coin around the table, then stopping the music at random intervals. first eliminating a few "contestants" one by one and then letting the music randomly decide the winners at each table. Often there is a twist at the end of this game where the winner is actually the person who "donated the coin" or perhaps the person to the right of the one holding the coin when the music stops. Regardless, this game gets a wonderful reaction time after time as it is a nice chance to have guests listen to music and warm up some dance moves before the dance floor officially opens.
BE TRUE TO YOURSELF Make the most of your dinner reception and be bold to include all of the elements that you think will be fun. It is your big day after all, make sure you enjoy it and create the vibe that you love the most.
